New Compression Technique For Audio Files

Harmony Central reports a company called GenieSys has released the latest version of their compression tool for audio files for free. The (Windows only) app is called AudioCollape RatHole, and it’s supposed to yield files that are up to 25 percent smaller than uncompressed (WAV) files, without compromising the sound quality. As you may have experienced, ZIP, RAR, ACE and other run-of-the-mill compression techniques don’t work very well with most audio files (unless they’re minimal techno), so this app may very well be worthwhile. Unfortunately for GenieSys, there’s already a different compression technique for audio files in wider use – Monkey’s Audio’s APE files.
