Marks his third multi-HR game of his career
MIAMI – Kishon Frett launched a pair of home runs on Saturday night to help baseballeven the series with an 8-2 win over New Mexico State at FIU Baseball Stadium.
After New Mexico State (18-17, 6-5 CUSA) plated two early runs in the first inning, FIU (21-13, 5-5 CUSA) locked in defensively, shutting out the Aggies over the final eight frames to secure the victory.
Frett put on a show at the plate, blasting his team-leading 12th and 13th home runs of the season. The slugger has now homered in three consecutive games, tallying four total during that span. It marked his second multi-homer game of the season (last on March 23 vs. Jacksonville State) and the third of his career.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Frett tied the game with a towering 409-foot, two-run shot off the video board. Later in the inning, Alex Ulloa gave FIU the lead with an RBI single through the right side, bringing home his team-best 30th RBI of the year.
The Panthers added to the lead in the third inning. After Brylan West drew a walk and Austin Dearing singled, Hector Candelas beat out an infield single to first base, allowing West to score and make it 4-2.
Frett struck again in the fourth, hammering his second two-run homer of the night to push the lead to 6-2.
On the mound, Owen Puk delivered a career performance, striking out a personal-best nine batters over four innings to earn his fourth win of the season.
FIU tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Dearing laced an RBI double into the right-center gap—his third hit of the game—to plate West. Andrew Ildefonso followed with an RBI single to right, capping the Panthers' offensive outburst.
Logan Runde was stellar in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out two. Julian Mlodzinski closed things out with a clean ninth.
Offensively, Frett and Dearing paced the lineup with three hits apiece. West reached base three times and added a hit. Ulloa turned in a multi-hit game, while Candelas, Cole Cleveland, Ildefonso, and Brendan Roney each recorded a base knock.
