genU Board Chair Ingrid Williams (GAICD, INSEAD) and CEO clare amies recently visited the Eastern Hub community centre to meet genU artists who participated in artX Regional 2024. Walking around the Hub, Clare and Ingrid praised the outstanding quality and variety of artworks on display.“It’s obvious the artwork comes from the heart, and we feel blessed to have so many artists willing to share their creative work with our community,” Clare said.“We know that connecting artX Regional entrants to mainstream artists and audiences can improve self-esteem and further help to break down barriers that can exist between the mainstream and disability art communities.”🌟🎨🌟Entries are now open for artX Metro 2024, welcoming artists with disability in Metro Melbourne to showcase their work. 👏Congratulations to Shaun for completing a Certificate II in Horticulture, after 18 months of study and on-the-job training at our Barwarre Gardens Retirement Village.Shaun is an NDIS participant, accessing support from genU’s Employment Pathways team. This included weekly support to make sure he understood the course content and could use what he learnt to meet the course requirements. The born-and-bred Lara man said it felt “very good” to get the Certificate.“I’m definitely proud,” he said. “I didn’t think I would do something like this.”If you are a Support Coordinator, parent, educator or looking for employment support yourself, read about Shaun’s experience https://bit.ly/4cQub65Jason Fleming Jaime-lee Demmer clare amies Claire Sime Elaine Garner Nikki Di Pasquale#EmploymentPathways #genUEmploymentSupports #BuildingInclusiveCommunities

🌟We are thrilled to provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) services to three NDIS participants at the outstanding new Specialist Disability Accommodation Australia (SDAAUS) property in Wallan, and look forward to assisting more in the future. The property has been purpose-built to ensure residents can live independently in villas with 24/7 shared onsite support. It includes state-of-the-art features, including high physical supports, fully accessible individual ensuites, ceiling hoist capacity, adjustable kitchen benchtops, and wheelchair-accessible design. With current vacancies leaving the impressive property under-occupied, it was valuable to discuss funding complexities that prospective residents are experiencing on a recent visit. Thanks to SDA Australia owners Andrew George Alexander and Luke Randles, Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell, residents, support workers and families of potential residents. At a time when many people are desperate for housing, we need to ensure accommodation that has been purpose-built for people with disability is not sitting empty,”said genU CEO, clare amies. To learn more about the Wallan property visit https://bit.ly/4bKOUqFClaire Sime Elaine Garner Jason Fleming shelley compton #genUSIL #SpecialistDisabilityAccomodation #SDA #SupportedIndependentLiving
