hello friends! i’m veritas, welcome to another blog. hopefully your march 20th is wonderful so far. today, i am revisiting the standard character analysis due to my success with kagami. however, today i am address the famous luka couffaine to conclude the “alternate love interests” series. luka is a complex character whom i admire the uniqueness of. without further stress, i would love to begin.
luka couffaine is the older brother of juleka. it is canon that he is 2 years older than his sister, placing him at 16 or 17 years old. he is a talented musician and passionate friend who leads the band kitty section along with marinette and their peers. luka is introduced in, “captain hardrock”, appearing more notably in “silencer” and “desperada”. in the latter it is revealed that, with the help of sass and the snake miraculous, luka transforms into viperion, a snake-themed hero with the power of second chance.
luka is a slender and fair skinned boy. he is taller for his age and, as described by the fandom wiki, has a roman nose. his most defining feature is his hair, which is medium length, starting as a darker blue or black at the top and leading into electric teal tips toward the ends. he wears a white t-shirt with a black jagged stone decal, navy hoodie, and sky blue jacket with simple black ripped jeans. his shoes have a mauve-maroon base and are adorned with what looks to be various patches. he has many accessories, some of which being a black ring on his left pointer finger, yellow and orange brackets, a brown leather wrist strap, and black ear gauges. luka always wear black nail polish. if gifted the snake miraculous, he also wears a teal snake ouroboros bracelet on his left wrist.
when akumatized into the silencer, luka transforms into what looks like a motorcycler’s outfit. it is black, purple, and neon green. on his chest is a pink and yellow audio design, the rest of his suit being black and purple with a sleek look. his helmet hides his blue skin and green eyes with a purple and neon green pattern. of course, his mouth is covered and his hand “talks” for him.
when transformed into the snake themed superhero viperion, luka wears a dashing teal, black, and dark cyan bodysuit. his hair looks very similar to his civilian form, only arguably more green. viperion is very muscular and his suit outlines his athletic figure. on his chest there is a yellow diamond sign, with his bodysuit resembling the underbelly of a snake. his mask is dark cyan and light teal, like the rest of his suit, which looks like a snake’s face and has yellow-green “fangs”. he holds his weapon, a dark cyan lyre with yellow-green strings and wears his miraculous charm, a teal snake ouroboros bracelet. this lyre is most likely inspired by greek mythology, as the priestess of the oracle of delphi was pythia, a huge snake. this snake was killed by apollo, who is commonly associated with the lyre and music as a general concept. hyperion and viper most likely combined to create his name, hyperion also being a greecian titan.
luka is noticeably calm and collected. he is known for his flirtatious charm toward marinette and is by far more mature and “adult” than the majority of the main cast. he is a skilled musician and loves his friends more than anything, possibly even his guitar. despite his relaxed outlook on life, he is easily shaken when his loved ones are threatened, like when bob roth stole kitty section’s music in “silencer”. he is in touch with his and others’ emotions and, even in times of crisis, knows how to make people and himself ‘chill’ and feel better, successfully stopping many akumas in the process. his is described by adrien as brave, caring, and determined, which he carries through his guitarist passions. he is insanely proficient in playing the guitar and is a fine singer as well. he explains to marinette that he “makes more sense with his guitar” and is deeply connected to his music. as it runs in his family with his mother, he has been playing “since he was in diapers”. additionally, he is fairly decent at ice/figure skating, as exemplified in “frozen”.
in the episode “desperada”, luka is given the snake miraculous in order to defeat the the akumatized ex-guitarist vivica. though at first the miraculous is given to fellow classmate adrien agreste, he fails his mission and the snake is redistributed to luka. upon opening the box, a blinding light appears and luka is, though shocked, still far more relaxed upon meeting the snake kwami sass than the average holder. after saying the phrase, “scales slither”, sass inhabits the miraculous and luka transforms into viperion, the snake hero. viperion is a gifted and diligent hero who always listens to ladybug and chat noir. he possesses the power of second chance. in order to activate it, he must pull the snake head on his bracelet back, turning time back 5 minutes. until the snake head reaches its original position, viperion may travel through time as much as he would like, making an incredibly useful ally for the super squad during their fight with desperada, a precision-based villain. viperion stays back to observe and adapt to his surroundings, using his lyre to lure desperada toward him and allow for ladybug and chat to attack. he additionally possesses enhanced speed, strength, and agility, like all other miraculous heros, and has more snake-like qualities, such as better hearing and smell. in order to detransform, he must shout, “scales rest”. it has been confirmed by both hawkmoth and ladybug that viperion’s insane power is by far the hardest to battle.
after bob roth and xy blatantly plagiarize kitty section’s music, luka couffaine is akumatized into silencer. his main goal is to get bob roth to tell the truth about his thievery and lies. as the silencer, he can steal people’s voices by touching their mouth with his fingers and then making a ‘shush’ gesture. once he has obtained their voice, he stores them in his mask and can talk through them at any given time, using his hands. the silencer’s real mouth is covered and he only talks through the hand he absorbs voices with. because of the necessity to active their powers with a coined phrase, silencer having either ladybug or chat noir’s voices would render them useless unless he was to say the phrase for them. even when akumatized and “evil”, luka still cares for marinette above everyone else, assuring he will bring justice for kitty section.
